CHARO SANTOS-CONCIO

With her sterling academic and professional track record, no doubt, Charo Santos-Concio is an epitome of talent, intelligence, and girl power!

The first woman president of ABS-CBN, Charo graduated valedictorian in elementary and high school. She took up AB Communication Arts at St. Paul’s College Manila where she gained her cum laude honors. She also took an advanced management course at Harvard University.

Charo proved herself as an award-winning dramatic actress and an accomplished film and TV producer early in her career. She won the “Best Actress” trophy for her performance in Mike de Leon’s Itim during the 1977 Asian Film Festival. She was also critically-acclaimed for her performance in Lino Brocka’s 1990 film Gumapang ka sa Lusak. In the 80s, Charo produced a number of successful films such as Oro Plata Mata and Himala. She worked as line producer for Bancom and Vanguard Films. She also became part of Vision Films and Regal Films.

In 1987, while working for Regal Films, she was invited to join the new ABS-CBN, which had re-opened in September 1986. Charo started her career in the network as a TV production consultant in 1987. In 1996, she served as senior vice president for TV and Special Projects. Two years later, she became the executive vice president and head of ABS-CBN’s Entertainment Group. 2006 saw her as the executive vice president and channel head of Mega Manila Channel 2. It was in March 2008 when Charo was appointed president of the ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation.

On screen, Charo hosts the network’s longest-running drama anthology program Maalaala Mo Kaya. She also anchors its award-winning radio edition, “Maalaala Mo Kaya sa DZMM.”
