JOEY LINA 
A certified public servant, Attorney Jose “Joey” Lina was born December 22, 1951 in Masampang, Victoria, Laguna. He has served as a Laguna governor, Philippine senator, and Interior and Local Government Secretary.
Atty. Lina gained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Santo Tomas in 1975, and his Bachelor of Laws at the University of the Philippines in 1979. While in law school, he was president of the College Editors’ Guild of the Philippines and editor of The Collegian, UP’s official school publication. One of the Top 10 in his class, he passed the bar examination in 1980.
In 1986, he served as the governor of Metro Manila. In 1987, he was elected as senator and served for two terms. In 1995, he then became governor of his hometown, the province of Laguna, again, for two straight terms. In 2001, he became the secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government. Because of his remarkable performance, he was one of the recipients of TOYM Awardees for Government Service.
As a public servant, Atty. Lina has accomplished a lot of programs. He has strengthened local autonomy and promoted community-based economic projects. Aside from intensifying the campaign against criminality, illegal drugs, and gambling, he also authored a number of republic acts for the welfare of barangays, women, and youth, as well as the propagation of health care and education.
Atty. Joey is currently the president of the Manila Hotel, and still holds office in different government and private institutions. His advocacy to serve his countrymen is done so through his weekend program, Sagot Ko ‘Yan!
Atty. Joey has great passion for music and with a powerful voice to match. True enough, in 2009, he launched his CD entitled, “Nagmamahal.” The album featured broadway, pop and OPM classics.
