VICE-PRESIDENT NOLI DE CASTRO

Indisputably, one of the most, if not the most successful broadcaster in the country, Vice President Noli “Kabayan” de Castro has a very inspiring story to tell. From being a barrio boy with grand dreams, he made use of life’s hardships as his motivation to succeed.

Born during the post-war period in Pola, Oriental Mindoro, Kabayan and his five siblings were solely raised by their mother. As a young boy, he was taught not to aspire for luxury and to always remember that happiness comes from having bare essentials in life, a loving family, food on the table, roof over their heads, and the faculty to dream.

Despite poverty, this young Mindoreño never lost hope in achieving his goals. At an early age, Kabayan learned the value of hard-earned money as he worked to support his education and supplement their family income. He finished his elementary education from Pola Central School and high school from Pola Catholic High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Commerce, major in Banking and Finance from the University of the East and a doctorate degree Honoris causa from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines.

It was in 1976 when a defining moment came about for Kabayan. Actually, he just accompanied his kuya to an audition for a slot as field reporter in a radio station. Instead, it was his voice which prevailed over the long queue of applicants. Since then, his life revolved around media and current affairs.

Kabayan joined ABS-CBN after the 1986 People Power Revolution. He got his break into television as the segment host of Good Morning, Philippines' "At your Service." He also joined DZMM as anchorman of Kabayan: Kapangyarihan ng Mamamayan, Balita at Talakayan. It was through this program that he gained the moniker "Kabayan." He further reached popularity when he hosted Magandang Gabi Bayan and TV Patrol. In January 1999, Kabayan served as overall head of production of "TV Patrol" and vice-president of DZMM.

The year 2001 marked the start of Kabayan’s political career as he ran for senator as an independent candidate and ranked first in the final list of winners. In the 2004 election, he ran and won as the 14th vice-president of the Republic of the Philippines.

Indeed, Kabayan is an inspiration for every Filipino who dreams big and aspires for a better life. And every week, he continues to inspire his followers and even lend a helping hand to them through his current program at DZMM aptly titled, Para Sa ‘Yo Bayan.
