AHWEL PAZ

Despite poverty and hardship, Ruel “Ahwel” Paz is a living testament of what one can achieve with talent and will power. From his humble beginnings, Ahwel is now a well-renowned stage and TV director, actor, host, international events specialist, and DZMM anchor.

Ahwel takes pride in being one of the scholars of former President Cory Aquino. He was a senior high school student when he received the first-ever Ninoy Aquino Youth Talent Award in 1988. As champion for the Acting Category, he received a presidential trophy and a scholarship grant.

With a degree in International Studies, Ahwel graduated from Miriam College with cum laude honors and Mother Mary Joseph Award--the highest distinction given to a student. In the same year, he was awarded as one of the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines by the Department of Education and the Knights of Rizal. In 1995, he took up his graduate studies through the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) in Denmark. His other recognitions include “Most Outstanding Young Professional for International Understanding (Parangal ng Bayan)” and “Amazing Alumni Achiever” of Miriam College.

As an events specialist, Ahwel has staged several global events such as the “World Caravan” in Canada, USA, Hong Kong, Abu Dhabi, and Dubai; and numerous United Nations-related international work camps in Denmark, Norway, France, and USA. He was also a consultant for events at the Philippine Tourism Authority (PTA) towards the promotion of its programs and projects. He conceptualized the “Kalesa Festival” and “Wish kong Bakasyunan” for OFWs. He also coined PTA’s slogans “Pilipino sa Turismo ay Aktibo” and “Beautiful and Exciting Sites and Trips (BEST) in the Philippines.” Ahwel is also highly acclaimed for having staged two events for the Guinness Book of World Record in the Philippines, namely: the longest bunting line in the world and the tallest hairstyle for women.

In 2008, he was consultant and one of the regular judges of DZMM’s reality comedy show, “Laugh Out Loud.” In September of the same year, the program Talakan: Talakayan at Kantiyawan was born. Co-anchored by Manny Castañeda, Talakan airs Weekdays at 12:30 NN to 1:30 PM. Ahwel ends his program with his famous line, “I love my family.”
