LAILA CHIKADORA
With her unique booming voice, distict hosting style, and bubbly personality, DJ Laila managed to become a popular household name that captured the hearts of her legions of audience, may it be on AM, FM, and even on TV! She’s “Tambayer Laila” at Tambayan 101.9, “Laila Chikadora” at DZMM Radyo Patrol 630, and “Official Karelyebo” of Jaymee Joaquin in ABS-CBN’s Games Uplate Live!
Laila took up Communication Arts at St. Scholastica’s College. Unfortunately, she did not finish her communications degree as she had to give way to her mother’s request to shift to a science-related course. Despite that, Laila kept nurturing her dream to become a disc jockey and spread happiness to other people through her gift of humor.
Her interest in radio started way back high school days, where she regularly hung out in a popular radio station observing a veteran DJ and dreaming that she would be one someday. But when she actually tried out applying for a DJ slot, it did not come as easy as she thought it would be. In fact, in one of her applications, she was told that she could not be accepted because “being a jock is a man’s world.” But as everybody knows now, Laila has successfully proven that person wrong.
Laila’s radio career started as a traffic reporter and radio operator for traffic.com. She also served as newscaster for Love Radio. But Laila said it was when she joined 101.9 For Life (now Tambayan 101.9) that she really felt whole and empowered as a radio DJ personality. Her remarkable hosting skills on FM radio made her recognized by the 14th KBP Golden Dove Awards as “Best Variety Talk Show Host.”
For DZMM, she co-anchors the weekly laugh trip program L.O.L-Laugh Out Loud alongside Onse Tolentino. Also, she contributes the latest showbiz news for Radyo Patrol Balita Alas Siyete and Gising Pilipinas.
When she’s not on-board and has time to spare, Laila has her own list of favorite things to do: music, photography, travel, paranormal, and sports.
